Gay Dating
March 2, 2009 by dudesdateHere is a great article on gay dating. Ramon Johnson talks about things you should do if your looking for the right guy. Finding a guy that you want to actually spend a lot of time with, date and be in a relationship with is usually much more difficult than finding someone online to just ‘have fun with’. So if this is what you are looking for you may need to up your game a little. In this article Ramon gives you some great advice on gay dating.
Keith Olberman on Prop 8 and Gay Marriage
February 10, 2009 by dudesdate
Keith Olberman speaks about California’s Proposition 8 and the rights for gay marriage. This is probably the most poignant and well written speech ever written fighting for the rights of gay men and women. Play it more than once. Even thought this is a past event. It still needs to be played. Because one day you may need these very words to defend this issue again.
What is Gay Dating?
January 17, 2009 by dudesdateGay dating isn’t that different from dating among straights. It can be a little awkward at first: Does he want me to? Will he call? Should I call him?
There was an old bit about gay dating that went somethings like this: Have sex. Go have a drink. Introduce yourself. Go home. In fact, I know a lot of straight young couples who do the same thing.
For a lot of gay men, that’s changed. During the time when nearly everyone was trying to keep their identities hidden, there seemed to be a sense of urgency. That’s less the case, now, although sex first, meet later hasn’t disappeared from the scene.
Online gay dating sites are very popular. They’ve taken over much of the role that was played by newspapers and magazines. If you think about placing a personal ad in a newspaper week after week, the online gay dating option is easier and cheaper than the print alternative.
Some people say, “But if I meet someone online, how do I know he’s not lying about himself?” You don’t! But neither do you know whether that guy you met at the bar last night is really a neuro-surgeon moving to your city to take a position in the most prestigious hospital after spending the last five years volunteering in Africa with Doctors Without Borders. In gay dating, as in all dating, you need to know someone well before you know they are telling you the truth.
Getting to know someone takes time. An increasing number of people are finding that there are advantages to getting to know someone first online–maybe for a day or two, maybe longer. Online gay dating provides an opportunity to meet men you might not have a chance to meet wherever you hang out. It never hurts to cast your net a little wider.
Whether you’re looking for a friend, a fling or a life-long companion, here are a few tips:
- Be skeptical–but don’t be so skeptical that it keeps you from taking that next step. An online gay dating relationship can be fun, but it won’t take the place of a bit of personal contact!
- Move the relationship forward but be sensitive to the pace your Internet buddy wants–unless he wants to keep it only online for months, years, decades….
- Most people recommend a phone conversation prior to an in-person meeting. I suggest that you both agree to keep this short. Phone conversations can be awkward and feel like an audition. Use the phone at this point mostly to set up the details of the first real life (RL) meeting.
- Meet for coffee (not a drink) for an agreed upon period of time. Make sure you have a later commitment (work, volunteer service, something), so that there will be no question that you are leaving because you have to, not because you want to.
- Decide in advance, while you’re still in the online phase, what the groundrules are for the next contact after that first RL meeting. Maybe you’ll decide to meet for an online chat or to send each other honest emails.
- For your next meeting, choose a public place–a bar, a theatre with dessert at a restaurant following, a fountain for a stroll through the park. This time, leave the time open-ended.
- Do whatever it is you both feel comfortable doing and have fun!

MRSA – New Drug Resistant Staph Strain
July 30, 2008 by dudesdateCheck out this article. This new drug resistant staph (MRSA stands for “methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus“.) is attacking the gay communities with large populations such as New York, San Francisco, Boston and Los Angeles. Some gay men’s health is already compromised, we should pay close attention to this report.
The numbers of infections are growing. One way to help prevent Staph is soap and water. According to the article the CDC says, “Risk factors include close skin-to-skin contact, openings in the skin such as cuts or abrasions, crowded living conditions and poor hygiene”. The article goes on to say that Vancomycin is a treatment that still works on MRSA.
